Emergency
Response:
The location of the new Red Cross facility will provide for optimum
planning and a coordinated response with the National Guard, Army
Reserve (currently located across from the new Red Cross site) and
all other emergency personnel in the event of a disaster.
Following a disaster, the Red Cross facility will provide a safe
shelter for disaster victims; a triage center for the injured in
support of our hospitals; an operational blood center and an Operations
Headquarters for all emergency personnel following a major disaster
in our area.
The Southwestern Indiana Red Cross Chapter is the Disaster Preparedness
and Response Lead for the State of Indiana. Our new facility
will assure that we are functional and able to respond to any disaster
in the state of Indiana.
Biomedical Services:
The new facility will provide a pleasant, convenient, accessible
facility for blood donors, and will provide space and parking for
increased activity and services in all Red Cross programs.
This increase will allow for the opportunity to educate an additional
20,000 individuals annually on the need and importance of
organ and tissue donation.
Accident, Illness and Disease Prevention Center:
Our new facility will provide our local Red Cross with the needed
space and parking to expand preventative health services.
An unparalleled opportunity exists to implement newly developed
Red Cross preventative health programs and collaborate with local
organizations to include a wide range of services in the Prevention
Center. The Prevention Center will be devoted to
promoting wellness by addressing the societal and individual determinants
of health through preventative education. The Prevention
Center will provide a one-stop opportunity to access any type
of preventative information/counseling for lifestyle changes and
better health. The immediate effects of the Prevention
Center will be consumer/client empowerment for choice and self-care
through preventative education. The long-term benefit will
be a reduction in accidents, illness and disease in our community.
