Shelter Team Recruitment Classes

Background
As a result of last year’s experience in Louisiana, massive numbers of evacuees are expected to seek congregate shelter in the event of an impending landfall which would be likely to significantly exceed the capabilities of Red Cross units in that state. In response to this probability, the American Red Cross is seeking to establish a ready reserve of 5,000-7,000 trained and registered volunteers. These volunteers would originate from metropolitan airport hubs on short notice, be pre-organized into teams, and would commit to exclusive availability for this purpose during this hurricane season. The Southwestern Indiana Chapter has been asked to participate in a targeted shelter team recruitment campaign by the organization to help achieve this goal

Chapter Goal
To recruit enough Mass Care (MC) Shelter service associates, supervisors, and Health Services service associates to permit the chapter to establish and maintain a roster of 63 four person response teams at any given point in time for deployment to Louisiana to support evacuation sheltering. In order to accomplish this goal, given the heavy roster rotation that will occur over the course of several months, it is likely that we would need to recruit 350-400 volunteers to for this opportunity.
