A History of Helping Other

A total of 1,618,000 service men and women enjoyed the hospitality of the Red Cross WWII canteen’s more than 2,000 volunteers. The Red Cross Canteen was one of the largest and most successful in the nation, and it was one of the last to close.

The American Red Cross was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton with the Volunteer purpose of providing relief during emergencies. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide, nonprofit organization whose missions are as follows:

“The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principals of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.”

Each year the President of the United States proclaim March “Red Cross Month”.
