The
Red Cross maintained two facilities in Evansville, Indiana, a Blood
Facility and a Chapter Facility (built in the early fifties). The
Chapter Building was inefficient, inadequate in size and layout,
and had limited parking. An evaluation of the effects of a major
tornado or medium size earthquake would have demolished the Chapter.
Another major reason for building a new facility was to include
the Blood Collection Center and Chapter Services offices in one
location. This was needed for cost effectiveness and optimum service
for ourhospital patients in the region. Blood Services was mandated
to move out of the antiquated Chapter facility by the Federal Drug
Administration or be closed down. The short notice for locating
another facility contributed to the difficulty in securing a convenient
facility for donors. |
